Contributing Writer Criteria
In all NEW TRIBE content, Aboriginal is always capitalized. Certain language will be censored at the discretion of the Managing Editor. Most importantly, always know deadlines, and always work within them.
All written work should be typed and submitted through email to: newtribepaper@yahoo.com. If you are submitting work on behalf of someone else (example, under aged youth) NEW TRIBE will need written permission from that individual before accepting that submission.
Do not format text in the body of the submission. Do not format text in any way it will not survive the transfer. If there is specific formatting you wish to be done, make notes within the email.
For a half-page article, the minimum word count is 400 to 500. For a full-page article, the minimum word count is 800. Some editing may be necessary, for instance if images are placed within the body of the printed article, eating up copy space. In either case, we prefer to have too much than not enough.
If you are submitting photos with your work, they have to be oversized tiff, jpeg or pdf files, and the screen resolution has to be 300 dpi. If this is not possible, we can accept large size jpegs (at least double the size they will be printed at). Do not submit tiny, low resolution images. They wont print clearly and we will not use them.
Before handing in completed work, a spell check must be done, and the work must be read through to check for clarity of writing style as well as structure.
Be aware that until each issue is sent to the printer, NO CONTENT IS GUARANTEED. At any time, we reserve the right to make editorial decisions that will affect the status of submissions, for whatever reason. If a piece is not printed within the first month of submission, we will hold it in our files until such time as we are able to use it.
Writers Honorariums 2007
- A New Tribe freelancer can expect to be paid $25 / page for all published articles. Photographers can expect to be paid $75 for a cover photo, $25 for a photo published with article.
- Freelancers cheques will be issued within 15 days following publication of a submission. USAY staff will contact each published freelancer when their cheque is ready.
- Upon receiving an honorarium cheque all recipients must add their signature verifying payment. Out of town writers must email verification upon cheque arrival.
- Unless in case of extreme circumstance, we will NOT deposit any honorarium cheque issued.
- Current contact information is a must from all contributing writers with submissions.
- There are no guarantees any content submitted to New Tribe will be published. No writer gets paid BEFORE the publication is printed.
- Honor comes from the word Honorarium. Abuse of any kind directed toward NEW TRIBE or USAY staff will not be tolerated for any reason.
